Lunch with Alanna Stang at Martha Stewart Living

Comments

While in New York, I had the exciting opportunity to meet with gracious and talented Alanna Stang, the executive editor of Martha Stewart Living. I was able to tour the space where the hard work and magic happens for each issue of Martha Stewart Living. The creative office takes up the entire 9th floor of the Starrett-Lehigh building and spans almost 150,000 square feet! There’s a craft room, a little flower shop, executive offices, a BEAUTIFUL test kitchen and you won’t believe, a Christmas room all year round! Alanna told me that they are already working on next year’s Christmas issue!

The lovely cooks in the test kitchen made Alanna and I a delicious shrimp curry that was featured in the last issue… it was very tasty! We had lunch in her office and talked about family and work (juggling the two), food, baby names (since she’s seven months pregnant!) and of course, Sugar and Charm and tips for expansion ; ) I was so impressed with Alanna and how sweet and down-to-earth she is. I could have talked with her for hours… if only she had more time!

I did take a few photos, but I wanted to be mindful that I was a guest and not to distract all the hardworking people around me! It was a wonderful experience and it helped me gain insight on how much work goes into putting together a fresh issue every month! Alanna has a personal blog you can read here!

A few quick notes about the photos:
Some Martha magazines while you wait in the lobby.
The amazing prop room!
A few busy crafters and the flower shop, which I swooned over ; )
Alanna and I posing for a quick photo at the end of our lunch date!

I am not surprised that you graced the halls of Martha Stewart. It is quite a place. So when we’ll we see the SugarandCharm editorial piece? You are extremely professional at what you do and now Martha Stewart sees it to.
