snippet of life: meet me at the drive-in

Comments

Yup, that’s right… we went to a drive-in and it was awesome! Okay, the sound was a little staticky and it was in the middle of an industrial parking lot, but hey I’m down if this is all we have left of the drive-in era. I actually grew up going to a drive-in theater because in my tiny little town it was actually a fun and popular thing to do. There’s something special about grabbing blankets and pillows and cozying up in your car with popcorn, soda and candy. Even with the crappy sound and acres of concrete (the one I grew up in has acres of grass, so this was just a tad bit different ; )) Zan and I had such a blast eating our favorite treats and watching Super 8. I wish so badly that drive-ins would become popular again… and that they would be full of gorgeous cars from the sixties!

I was actually talking about drive-ins with a friend of mine just last week. How weird is that?

I loved going, too. I never remember the movie, but I always remember who I was with and the fun times we had. I was only about ten or so the last time we went, but it’s still one of the best memories I’ve got.

Wow! I would love to do that on a regular basis. Maybe I could be creator of the first UK drive-in?…

How charming! Here in Greece we have open-air cinemas on rooftops. The people who live in the buildings next door get a free showing on their balconies every night! It’s wonderful to smell all the jasmine and honeysuckle all around when you’re watching a movie during a balmy summer’s night.

    Love it.
