What better day to bring out the bright red lipstick than the 4th of July? Make-up artist Kelly Shew created the perfect simple black cat eye with the most incredible bold red lips and I’m loving it! This is 100% my go-to makeup this 4th. To achieve this American look Kelly used Velvet Matte lipstick in Forbidden Red by Nars – so convenient because it’s a pencil, but glides like a lipstick and has a creamy texture. For the eyes she used a buttercream shadow over the lid and a little Ash shadow by Mac in the crease. Kelly’s trick for getting the perfect cat eye is to draw a straight line following the lid, but stop at the end. Then open the eye and continue the line so you can see where it needs to stop and how it should proceed. Almost any black, creamy liner will work to create a cat eye. A few favorites are Smash Box Jet Set Waterproof Liner in black, Bobbie Brown’s Long Wearr Gel Liner and I love Laura Mercier Tightline Cake Liner, but you have to get it wet. Just make sure you use a very thin and small liner brush with any of them!
