Patriotic Art for The Home

hangingtheflag framingtheflag3framingtheflag2For years, I’ve told Zan that I wanted a beautifully framed vintage flag to hang in my “future” dining room. Last year for Christmas, before we even closed on our house, he surprised me with the most gorgeous 48 star, handwoven and stitched vintage flag that was “floating” in a stunning frame. There it was in all it’s glory, the piece of art I always wanted…and it was huge! Bigger than I imagined! He found the flag on Ebay and the funny thing was that the flag was in such pristine condition he had our friend who is a Hollywood “ager  and dyer” add some antiquing to it! He then sent it to our local framing guru to stitch it to a linen background and frame it. Because of the size, we had it framed in plexiglass so if it ever fell or anything, it’s much safer. Since we were in an apartment, I hung it in the hallway, which was the only place it would fit. I wanted to share it then, but it was too hard to get a good photo. But now I have it hanging above our family style dining table and it’s the first thing you see when you walk into the kitchen. Everyone comments on it and I adore having this colorful, bold and historic piece of art in our home. If you want to save money, you don’t have to frame the flag because it’s beautiful on its own, but you could cover a large cardboard with linen and then hand stitch it to the linen to hang on the wall. A fun DIY!

By the way, please excuse the glares in the photo!
