Rosemary Wreath – How To Make the Best Smelling Wreath

This homemade rustic rosemary wreath is such a cool decoration! I used rosemary from the garden. It’s a cinch to put together and looks great on your front door.

I have an abundance of rosemary growing outside, and there’s even more growing up the hill from our house! I’ll never be able to use that much rosemary, so I thought it would be cool and festive (’tis the season!) to make a DIY Rustic Rosemary Wreath!

To give the wreath a little twist, we cut an old leather belt I had and buckled it around the top of the wreath to hang from. I love the rustic look, and it matches our “ranch” house perfectly!

How To Make This Rustic Wreath

Materials Needed To Make DIY Rosemary Wreath

– Rosemary

Metal wreath frame

Needle nose pliers

Green wire

Lavender

Step by Step Guide

1 — Use a round, metal wreath frame, needle nose pliers, and green wire to attach the rosemary.

2 — Before wire, place the rosemary around the metal frame, giving yourself an outline. Then start attaching it using the wire and needle nose pliers.

3 — You’ll need quite a bit of rosemary to make it look like a full wreath, especially when it’s dried.

4 — If you don’t have an old belt, you can buy a piece of leather or wire to hang the wreath from. For the leather belt, we just cut it to size and then nailed in some extra holes to buckle it through.

5 — We also added some lavender to the top to give the rosemary wreath some color.

6 — Then enjoy the most relaxing and best-smelling wreath around!

Rosemary For Christmas

Rosemary is a member of the mint family Lamiaceae, which includes many other herbs. The name “rosemary” derives from Latin ros marinus (“dew of the sea”). The plant is also sometimes called anthos, from the ancient Greek word ἄνθος, meaning “flower.”

Rosemary is seen as a symbol of friendship, loyalty, and remembrance. A lovely symbol for the Festive season!

Using Fresh or Dry Rosemary on this Rustic Wreath

We used fresh rosemary, but I think next time, I would let it dry for a day or two and then put it on the wreath. That way, it gives you a better estimate of what it will look like.

After washing and drying rosemary sprigs, bundle them together, tie them up at their bases, and hang them in a well-ventilated area to air-dry. Rosemary also dries evenly in the oven. Place sprigs on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and set the oven to the lowest temperature possible.

Rosemary For Memory

A study was carried out by Northumbria University and concluded that exposure to rosemary could boost memory. The researchers found that students working in a room that contained the aroma of rosemary achieved between five and seven percent better results in memory tests.

Memory-boosting or not, it smells great, with its aromatic herbal scent that smells similar to pine.

Top Tips For This Rustic Wreath

— Go for dry rosemary, which will give you the best estimate as to the final size of the wreath.

— If you don’t have a leather belt, you can use a piece of old leather or wire to hang the wreath.

— Add some rosemary to the top of the wreath for an extra pop of color!
