Refreshing Watermelon Margarita

May 21, 2014 | cheers | Comments

WatermelonMargarita1 WatermelonMargarita3 I’ve been on a margarita kick lately! Must be the summer heat we had last week. This time when Zan got home from work, I made a watermelon margarita with fresh watermelon juice, lime juice, orange juice, tequila and a dash of sugar. Using fresh juice and only lightly sweetening is the key to creating perfect margaritas. To make the watermelon juice, I pureed about 3 cups of watermelon in a blender until liquified. You can strain it if you want pure juice. I didn’t mind the puree though. I didn’t salt the rim of this glass, but gave it a very light sugar rim. I tried salt, but didn’t like how it interfered with the taste of the watermelon. And as always, you can customize this cocktail to your liking… if you want to add a little more sugar or lime, etc. These would be great for Memorial Day or the 4th of July!

Watermelon Margarita Recipe
3 ounces fresh watermelon juice
Juice of 1.5 limes
1 ounce fresh-squeezed orange juice
2 ounces tequila
1 teaspoon sugar or agave

Add all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake for 20 seconds. Strain over a glass with ice.
