This delicious, creamy and chocolatey drink is a family favorite! Homemade almond milk has great nutritional benefits, it has half the calories of cow’s milk and zero added sugar. And because it’s not an animal product, it has no cholesterol! Tasty and healthy!

Have you ever tried homemade chocolate almond milk? If you haven’t, I promise you, you’re missing out!

My family, including my 5-year-old, is absolutely obsessed with this fresh, incredibly delicious treat that has ZERO added sugar!

I have no problem at all pouring my son an extra glass of this chocolate almond milk because it’s sweetened with dates and unsweetened cocoa powder… and that’s it!

The homemade almond milk recipe is creamy, chocolatey and SO good!!

We are all a bit infatuated with it and it feels nice to have a mid-day sweet that isn’t going to leave you feeling like you’ve had a sugary snack! Hope you enjoy it!

Personally, I don’t think it’s very difficult to make this almond milk recipe either. As long as you remember to soak the almonds the night before, the rest is easy. I use this nut milk bag and of course, my vitamix to blend it up.

I wish I could tell you how long it stays fresh, but I can’t yet because my family drinks it within 2 days! We’ll do a test and update the post.

How To Make Homemade Almond Milk – With Chocolate

  1. Soak 2 cups raw almonds in water overnight.
  2. Strain and rinse the almonds thoroughly.
  3. Add the plump 2 cups almonds, 6 cups fresh filtered water, dates, vanilla, salt and cocoa powder in a blender and blend on high for 5 to 10 minutes. Almonds must be incredibly fine and chopped.
  4. Pour the mixture into a nut milk bag, over a bowl (preferably with a spout) and squeeze until all of the liquid is out. This will take at least 10 minutes.
  5. Pour into a carafe and refrigerate.

Homemade Vanilla Almond Milk

Also, if you don’t want chocolate, the recipe below is my go-to for just plain, homemade vanilla almond milk too. I use dates, vanilla bean paste and sea salt. I could drink it all day!!

Is Almond Milk Good For You?

Although almond milk is not a direct substitute for cow’s milk, almond milk has some great nutritional value.

Sweetened naturally with dates, it’s good for cutting back on sugar. Plus if you are watching the calories almond milk has around 50% lower calories than cow’s milk, and has no cholesterol.

How Long Does Almond Milk Last For?

My homemade almond milk recipe uses activated almonds ( i.e made with soaked almonds), as such it will keep in a sealed container for 2 to 3 days, in the fridge. Unsoaked almond milk will last for about 5 days.

Tips For Homemade Almond Milk

  • If you want to make almond cream, just add half the water. You will get super rich and thick almond milk that’s perfect for lattés… yum!!
  • To make the almond milk last as long as possible, keep the raw nuts as fresh as possible. Store them in the freezer or in a cool, dark cupboard in an airtight container.
  • To tell if almond milk has gone bad, check for any color changes and the smell of bad almond milk should be similar to sour milk.
  • You can use the leftover almond pulp to make bean-free hummus, crackers or even brownies.

  • 2 tablespoons vanilla bean paste
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • Pinch sea salt
