Snippet of Life: Santa Ynez Wine Country Guide

Read below for the best, quick Santa Ynez Wine Country guide!! Ah Santa Ynez Wine Country, we love you! Our weekend started off a little rocky after my mother-in-law, Romeo and I were in a pretty crazy car accident. It could have been a lot worse, so thank God no one was hurt, but my car is practically totaled! We spent a few hours getting it towed, phone calls, etc… then got a rental and took off for a relaxing weekend, which is what we all needed after that! Zan and I absolutely LOVE it in Santa Ynez. We’ve been up there quite a few times and always have a wonderful time. I created a mini guide of some of my favorite restaurants, shops and wineries after the jump. This time we stayed in Solvang… an adorable little Danish town with charming buildings and home to Paula’s Pancake House. Oh my goodness, Paula’s has the best Danish pancakes and homemade whipped cream ever!! It’s one of those delicious greasy spoon places that you just have to treat yourself to once in awhile.

We ate at my favorite restaurant Full of Life Flatbread, but also had an incredible dinner at the Ballard Inn. We were all blown away with how savory our dinner was there and Chef Budi comes out to greet all of his guests, which is a nice experience while dining. In Los Olivos a new general store opened! You all know how much I adore a good general store and this one was just as perfect as all of the rest. My mother-in-law bought Romeo this cool book. We also tried a new winery that’s off the beaten path (those are always the best, right?) called Alma Rosa. I highly recommend this funky, Southwestern winery surrounded by rolling green hills and farm animals. They use certified organic farmers, organic grapes and the flight of Pinot Noir was very tasty. They were also featured in the movie Sideways : ) It was a beautiful weekend and I can’t wait to go back! Below is the best little guide and tips to Santa Barbara Wine Country and Santa Ynez Valley!

Los Alamos Flatbread: Best pizza in the world and my favorite restaurant, ask for Debrah!
Ballard Inn Restaurant: Romantic restaurant with gourmet food located in the Inn.
Bell Street Farm: Great place for a quick lunch.
Grappolo: Yummy Italian food, located in a little Western strip.
Los Olivos Grocery: Great for a quick sandwich or to grab snacks for your day.
Paula’s Pancake House: Greasy spoon breakfast with the best Danish pancakes and whipped cream.

Next time, you MUST visit Foxen Winery, just up the road from Zaca Mesa. Lovely, lovely wines and amazing people, where everyone knows your name. They have their original tasting room (a shack!) still standing, plus a gorgeous, big new tasting room just built a couple of years ago down the road. We are addicted. Highly recommend.

1.) Glad you are safe, drivers in Cali are so scary sometimes. 2.) Thanks for all the great travel recommendations, I pinned from your tropical vacation and I’m saving this post too! Wish I had this info while I lived in Los Angeles, husband and I would take the harley up to Santa Barbara a bunch but didn’t’ know any other cool/close places to explore.
