We Bought a House!

Exciting news! We finally closed on a house after looking for years! We took the advice of many people and looked for the crappiest house in a nice area we’ve been eyeing for a long time. So pretty much we overpaid for a fixer upper, ha! That’s California real estate for ya. But we’re happy to be living in a neighborhood we really like. The house is ranch style with two giant, whimsical, protected oak tress that I fell in love with. There’s also a REAL wood burning fireplace, which was on our checklist when we were looking. Real ones are hard to find in Cali because you can’t build them anymore. So between the trees and the fireplace, I was sold! But let’s talk about that kitchen. Oh my gosh… there are painted plants on random soffit boxes and the ugliest cabinets ever! I wouldn’t even put a single, white plate in those dirty cabinets. The day after we closed and got the keys, we had our contractor gut the entire kitchen! I was born in the decade, but happy to say “goodbye 80’s!” We’ve been hard at work designing the new kitchen and I think you’ll all love the before and after. My magazine tear-outs I’ve collected for years are finally coming to good use! We definitely have a lot of work to do on our little ranch house.  We’re knocking down walls, smoothing the interior, stucco-like plaster throughout the entire house, redoing ALL of the floors and eventually bathrooms. So far the process is going pretty smoothly thanks to our angel contractor and vendors and we hope to move in about 3 weeks! I’m extremely excited to have a new home for Romeo and a place to call our own… to create years of memories in! It’s been a dream of mine to fix up a house since I was a little girl. I’m so grateful for the opportunity. Any remodeling tips would be great!

Oh and pretty funny (kind of) the day we got the
keys I shut the front door and handle
broke. Welcome home!!

Yay!! It’s going to be amazing!! I LOVE those trees!! Beautiful trees are a must for our next house. I can’t let my boys grow up without being able to climb trees and build forts! Haha I love that you got a contractor, it will speed up the process immensely!! Our kitchen was the first thing we tackled before we moved in too….it was a bright red with pink counters! Haha I’m dying to see the afters when you’re all settled!!! Congrats you guys!!!!

Congrats Zan and Eden! That is awesome news! My husband is very handy and we fixed up two houses ourselves (we used contractors for a few things that needed permits). I would advise that you shop around and only use contrators/workers that are licensed, bonded and insured (Angie’s List is a good start). I also checked Yelp for reviews of places. Buy any of your tile/granite in the “Tile Mile” in Anaheim (they have the BEST prices in So. Cal. Have fun!!!!
