On Saturday we celebrated Romeo’s 2nd birthday with his friends and family. I asked Romeo what he wanted at his party and he said “Balloons, BIG balloons, bubbles, balls, cake.” Easy enough for me! So with that, we created a little “Camp Romeo” with lots of balloons, balls and cake. The kids played with bubble guns, homemade goop and colorful paint. They drank juice from real pineapples, snacked on sweets like cookie butter dirt cups and cake. We had story time and sang campfire songs. The kids made messes, got dirty and went a little crazy for two hours… it was a BLAST!
Most importantly, we teamed up with Milk + Bookies and in lieu of gifts we had our little guests bring books to donate. If you haven’t heard of Milk + Bookies, it’s a non-profit organization founded by Meredith Alexander. It’s mission is to spread the love of reading to those who can’t afford books AND to teach children the importance of giving through service learning. Meredith started hosting her own Milk + Bookies parties to create meaningful experiences for children based on her own family’s values of giving back and reading. Now Milk + Bookies is inspiring young philanthropists all over the country with their mission of choosing, inscribing and giving. We’re big fans of Milk + Bookies so when I was introduced to them a year ago, I knew I wanted to bring the power of giving into our home. When the children arrived to Romeo’s party, books in hand, they wrote their name on a Milk + Bookies tag to stick inside the book cover. I had them set all of the books inside a wire basket and they took a “I donated” sticker to wear during the party as well as a bookmark and balloon to take home. We can’t wait to deliver the books this week! If you want to host a Milk + Bookies party you can purchase an adorable Bookies Box with the supplies you’ll need to host your party. Romeo’s birthday was such a success and we’re so grateful for all of our little future philanthropists that attended!
