In our house, we watch the most movies around the holiday season. We light a fire, cuddle up and watch Christmas movies starting Thanksgiving night. We have a list of Christmas movies to watch every year so the earlier we start, the better! If we have guests or family staying I always make extra snacks for everyone. Obviously popcorn, chocolate and sodas are a must, but having a variety of different nuts is essential too. With their unique combination of good fats, dietary fiber, vitamins and minerals nuts make a deliciously powerful addition to any holiday festivity! I’ve created 3 amazingly delicious recipes using Planters that are perfect for movie night entertaining! Brown Sugar and Bacon Cashews (hello!), Cranberry Nut Brittle and Spicy, Smoked Chipotle Nuts! There’s a sweet, salty and spicy recipe to fulfill everyone’s needs! Mr. Peanut would be proud ; )
Brown Sugar and Bacon Cashews
1 can of Planters Deluxe Cashews (8.5 ounces)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 package thick cut bacon
1 tablespoon bacon fat (from the bacon you use)
1/2 cup water
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.
Cover a baking sheet (with small sides) in tin foil.
Lay the bacon next to each other and cook for 20 minutes (or until done) turning half way in between.
Cut the bacon into chunks.
In a medium sauce pan, heat the brown sugar and water until the sugar is melted.
Add in the cashews and stir until cashews are light brown.
Pour in the bacon fat and bacon chunks and coat the cashews.
Place them in a bowl and serve with a napkin!
Cranberry Sugar Nut Brittle
1 can Planters deluxe mixed nuts (8.75 ounces)
1 can Planters salted caramel nuts (6 ounces)
1 cup dried cranberries
2 cups sugar
1 cup water
Boil all of the ingredients together until the sugar is thick and somewhat dissolved. Lay parchment paper on a cookie sheet and spread the nuts out evenly. Let them cool completely until hardened, then break it apart like brittle.
Spicy and Smoked Chipotle Nuts
1 can Planters Chipotle Peanuts (6 ounces)
1 can Planters Smoked Peanuts (6 ounces)
1 can Planters mixed nuts (10.3 ounces)
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon chipotle chili powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon crushed cayenne pepper
10-15 drops (depending on how spicy you like it!) of red hot sauce
Mix until all of the nuts are coated in spices. You can really choose how much spice you want to use depending on what you like. Don’t be afraid to add more or less! Enjoy!!!
