Here’s everything you need to know about how to make our deliciously simple honeydew sake sorbet.

What Are Honeydew Melons Good For?

Honeydew is famous for its sweet, light flavor, making it the perfect ingredient for any refreshing summertime treats.

Sorbet aside, honeydew also lends itself very well to fruit salad, smoothies, and even cocktails!

What Goes With Honeydew Melon?

Because honeydew has such a neutral flavor, it serves as an excellent complement to dozens of flavors.

Due to its mildness, honeydew goes well with practically any other fruit. Fruits aside, its natural sweetness also pairs well with mint, yogurt, and most sparkling wines.

Does Sorbet Have Dairy?

Unlike ice cream, frozen yogurt, sherbet, and other chilly, summertime treats, sorbet does not contain any dairy or other animal byproducts. So, it’s a safe and delicious option for vegans or those with dairy allergies.

What Is Sake?

Sake (pronounced Sah-Keh) is a type of Japanese wine made by fermenting rice.

Like other types of wine, there are several different varieties of sake such as Amazake, which is sweeter and has a lower-alcohol content than other sakes, and Taruzake, which tends to have a more woody flavor.

Muroka, is an unfiltered sake known for having a stronger taste and aroma than other sake, making it an excellent sake to use in your sorbet.

Cooking sake, with its lower alcohol content and stronger rice flavor, may seem like a safer option when it comes to making sorbet. That said, most cooking sake also contains salt, so be careful if you’re thinking of adding it to any desserts!

Where Can You Buy Sake?

While sake is a traditional Japanese beverage, you don’t have to hop a flight to the Land of the Rising Sun to get your hands on some!

You can find sake at any liquor store or specialty Asian food market. Depending on where you live, you may also be able to order sake online and have it delivered right to your door.

How Is Sorbet Made?

Sorbet is one of the oldest frozen desserts in the world and you can make it with nothing but water and fruit juice. That said, there are plenty of ways to dress up your sorbet to make it a little tastier and more fun.

Unlike dairy-based frozen treats, sorbet is a breeze to make — all you need are your ingredients and a whole lot of ice.

When making frozen desserts, like sorbet, the trick is to keep the concoction moving as it freezes. Constant movement allows the final mixture to freeze into small, separate ice crystals rather than one solid block.

While an ice cream machine can handle all the hard work for you, you don’t actually need one to make sorbet. You can accomplish the same thing with a large bowl of ice, an electric hand mixer set to low, and a bit of patience.
