Ingredient Notes

This recipe is made with simple ingredients that you can find at your local grocery store. It’s perfect for the holiday season!

Vanilla Ice Cream – Use good quality vanilla ice cream to make this recipe. You can also use pumpkin ice cream for an even stronger pumpkin flavor. You can also use a non-dairy vanilla ice cream.

Whole Milk – We like whole milk because it adds a very creamy texture.

Pumpkin Puree – Pure, canned pumpkin work perfectly for making milkshakes.

Pumpkin Pie Spice – We love our homemade version of pumpkin spice but you can also use store-bought pumpkin pie spice too.

Bourbon – If you’re making milkshakes for adults add in bourbon! It adds so much flavor it’s delicious! You can also leave this out too.

Tips for Making a Pumpkin Pie Milkshake

  • Use a powerful blender to make the milkshake super smooth. We use a Vitamix, expensive but worth the investment.
  • If the milkshake is watery, add a scoop of ice or more ice cream and blend.
  • If the milkshake is too thick, add a little more milk.
  • Leave out the bourbon if you want a non-alcoholic milkshake.
  • Make this dairy-free by using dairy-free ice cream and a milk substitute like almond milk or coconut milk.
  • Add a little maple syrup for extra sweetness and flavor.

Milkshake Toppings

  • Top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel.
  • Add graham cracker crumbs over the top for some crunch.
  • Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top for extra fall flavors.
  • For a fun presentation, garnish with a mini slice of pie.
