This delicious watermelon margarita is so refreshing and great for summer! It’s lightly sweetened with lovely balanced sweet, tart taste. Plus, it’s super simple to make. Some may say it’s the perfect margarita recipe!

top down shot of watermelon margaritas

I’ve been on a margarita kick lately! Must be the summer heat we had last week. This time when Zan got home from work, I made a watermelon margarita with fresh watermelon juice, lime juice, orange juice, tequila and a dash of sugar. Using fresh juice and only lightly sweetening is the key to creating perfect margaritas. To make the watermelon juice, I pureed about 3 cups of watermelon in a blender until liquified. You can strain it if you want pure juice. I didn’t mind the puree though. I didn’t salt the rim of this glass, but gave it a very light sugar rim. I tried salt, but didn’t like how it interfered with the taste of the watermelon. And as always, you can customize this cocktail to your liking… if you want to add a little more sugar or lime, etc. These would be great for Memorial Day or the 4th of July!

How To Make A Watermelon Margarita – Step By Step

  • Add all of the ingredients into a shaker with ice and
  • Shake for 20 seconds.
  • Strain over a glass with ice.

How To Make The Perfect Margarita

The secret to a perfect margarita – like most recipes – is proportions. Balance accounts for the difference between a good margarita and a bad one.

The other factor is also when you want your margarita. If it’s with food, then usually you’d dial back the tequila, to allow the food some room on your taste buds. But if you are simply wanting to drink, then bring that tequila balance forward!

Watermelon Margarita – A Refreshing Summer Cocktail

This watermelon margarita really suits summer well! It’s light, but still has a lovely tequila punch to it. If you want it feel even lighter, you can strain the juice so it’s purer.

A Fruity Margarita

The watermelon puree really lights up the taste buds and refreshes you nicely. Meanwhile, the other citrus notes from the orange and lime work perfectly with the watermelon, a tangy zing!

Top Tips For A Watermelon Margarita

  • Make sure you’re enough – but not too much of your ingredients. It’s all about balance.
  • Make sure you shake and not stir your margarita.
  • Avoid concentrate and cheap tequila.
  • Use big solid ice cubes.
  • Pick limes that are soft and shiny.

Margaritas really are the perfect summer cocktail, and I’ve been buying a lot of watermelon lately too! I’ll definitely have to try this one soon!
