Tips for Making Bath Bombs

  • First, do not add more than 2 teaspoons water… even if you think it might be too dry and keeps its shape. It will eventually start fizzing in the mold, which you don’t want!

  • Let them dry for 24 hours and then carefully pull apart!
  • Stressing again, do not add more water… and follow the measurements perfectly below for success!

What can I use to color bath bombs?

You can actually use a natural food coloring or one of the options below!

  • For the green dye, try this natural skin safe food coloring.
  • There’s also this dye made for soap and bath bombs.

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces baking soda
  • 4 ounces citric acid
  • 4 ounces corn starch
  • 4 ounces epsom salts
  • 2 tsp water , no more!
  • 2 tsp green apple essential oil
  • 2 tsp apricot oil
  • 3 drops green dye

Instructions

  • Mix all dry ingredients EXCEPT citric acid in a large mixing bowl  (salt, baking soda, cornstarch).
  • In a separate small bowl, mix water, essential oil, apricot oil and food coloring.
  • Combine the wet and dry mixture, which should resemble the texture of dry/moist sand. Almost like a flour consistency.
  • Mix until the color is even. It takes  awhile and it’s not just stirring, but rather pushing down with a spatula on the chunks of wet. Adding the food coloring helps you figure out if it’s well-mixed. An even color means a good mix.  When you squeeze some in your fist, it should hold together.
  • Add citric acid and mix again (do NOT use your hands at this point as the pure citric acid is abrasivand do not add water after you mix in the citric acid.
  • Add in your desired decorations and mix with a spoon.
  • Pack tightly into the mold and wait 24 hours for it to set, then remove. You can try to remove them earlier, but if it starts to crumble, let it dry longer.

  2. I dont own a kitchen scale. So when you d=say 8 ounces of baking soda or 4 ounces of citric acid. how much is that using cups or measuring spoons?

    • 8oz is 1 cup.

And FYI, DO NOT add any more water than it calls for!! I expected the texture to be like moon sand so I added more. BAD idea, lol. Do only the amt it calls for, it’ll work just fine, trust me! Now I have some puffy over flowing bath bombs, ha ha! And never did that again, the rest of them are perfect except that one batch.

    • Hi Sammy!! Thank you so much for letting me know! That is so odd… okay here is the link http://amzn.to/2zRNwl4 we used plastic clear ornaments that open in half. I found that they worked the best. These bath bombs can be so temperamental, haha! But after trying SO many times I feel like we got a pretty good recipe. Just follow closely, haha!
