The Best Peppermint Mocha!

We brewed Dunkin’ Donuts White Chocolate Peppermint coffee mixed with Dunkin’ Dark to get a rich, festive flavor and then poured it over real white chocolate morsels. The morsels melt with a quick stir creating a bold white chocolate flavor. You can also just brew one flavor of coffee!

To top it off, I added in a little peppermint extract that gives it a vibrant peppermint flavor.

Then a little splash of cream and of course, top off with whipped cream and you have yourself one of the best homemade brewed White Chocolate Peppermint mochas you can make at home!

What Is A Mocha?

The word mocha did not originally have anything to do with the combination of chocolate and coffee we know and love today. The term actually originated as early as 1773 and referred to a variety of coffee.

In the late 1700’s, one variety of coffee beans became extremely popular in Europe.

It is difficult to know exactly how the term mocha came to be used for coffee and chocolate, but it is often said that the beans had a distinct chocolate taste.

Certainly, the marriage of coffee and chocolate is nothing new. As chocolate was introduced to Europe, it did not take long for people to figure out this was a match made in heaven.

In 16th century Venice and Turin, where some of the earliest coffee houses were opened, chocolate was mixed with coffee and called bavareisa. Also, in Italy, bicerin was served, which was a little clear glass of espresso and chocolate, served with visible layers.

The modern Café mocha grew out of the ubiquitous Café latte, when a shot of chocolate syrup, or powder, was added.

So that’s som origin story for you, why not give your classic mocha a twist and try this delightful white chocolate and peppermint mocha 😉
