These Beautiful DIY fans are perfect for a special event or party! Easy to make and can be made in all kinds of colors and patterns

I was inspired to make these after visiting my local Paper Source Shop and they had about 50 of them in the window display. I asked if I could buy a few and they told me, you can make them yourself! What?!

I was extremely excited to find out they were a DIY! So I bought a few sheets of rectangular paper and went home to make my own. They’re actually pretty easy to make and you can do different sizes, colors, and patterns to match the theme of your party.

I love the way they look hung up with clear string at different positions and heights. They’re pretty charming and would make a beautiful backdrop for any event!!

How To Make These DIY Fans – Step by Step

  • Accordion fold both sheets of paper. Make sure the side you’re using is colored side is folded down. So it starts and ends that way.
  • Do this to both papers.
  • Tie them together in the middle with twine.
  • Fan the paper out and tape the sides together to create a circle.
  • Punch a hole in the top and tie a clear string to hang the paper fans.

Making an Accordion Fold

If you’ve never done an accordion fold before, it’s a cinch!

Start by folding the paper in half, short end to short end and, using your bone folder, make the crease crisp. This is your reference fold, and it is always the fold in the middle of the sheet.

Using the reference fold to make subsequent folds ensures your  accordion will have evenly sized panels.

A Cheap, Easy and Gorgeous Party Backdrop!

Co-ordinated decor for parties always make the occasion feel extra special. It looks great and shows the love put into the party planning!

But getting your backdrops co-ordinated can be a bit of a monumental task, you’re most likely not going to want to paint the rooms electric pink just for the party night – props to you for commitment if you do though!.

These DIY party fans are the perfect solution, they are easy to make and cost a couple of dollars per fan. They provide color and texture, tying in your decor wonderfully!

Layering your DIY Fans

You can have the fans separate or you can layer them for a lovely big collage of fans!

Firstly you can lay them down on  the floor in the configuration you want, then take  picture of it with your phone and then disassembled it back to the 4 large fans. Then use your glue gun to secure the fans on the ridges touching the cardboard in as many places as possible to the cardboard base.

Layer in your smaller fans gluing them to the base or the larger fans. Done!
