Coffee cake is a classic and traditional cake that is paired or flavored with coffee. Personally, I think the best coffee cake is one that made with coffee and paired with it too! I like to add in a little espresso and then of course, enjoy a slice with the perfect cup of coffee.

How To Make A Moist Coffee Cake – Step By Step

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  • Cream together 12 tablespoons butter and sugar on high until light an fluffy.
  • Add in 1 egg at a time and beat until incorporated.
  • Add in the vanilla, sour cream and espresso and continue to beat on medium, scraping down the sides and the bottom of the bowl.
  • Turn the mixer to low and add in the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • Pour batter into a greased bundt pan.
  • For the streusel, combine ½ cup brown sugar, 1½ teaspoon cinnamon, 1 tablespoon cold slated butter cubed and ½ cup flour.
  • Use your fingers to break up the butter and make a crumbly texture to combine.
  • Crumble the streusel over the batter evenly. The more the better!
  • Bake for 30-35 minutes and let cool before removing from the pan.

Coffee Cake Glaze Instructions

  • In a small bowl combine all of the ingredients and whisk until fully combined.
  • The texture should be a glaze finish that you can drizzle on the coffee cake.

A Delicious and Moist Coffee Cake – Perfect For Tea Parties!

I call this my Spring Coffee Cake because I think it’s perfect for an afternoon tea party or outdoor brunch! It’s moist and crumbly just like coffee cake should be and very flavorful with the espresso we added to the recipe.

We also used sour cream, which is traditional to American coffee cake, to keep it moist and give it a little bit of a tart flavor. It feels very spring with the light coffee glaze and then garnished with flowers. If you like coffee cakes, try this coffee cake recipe and let me know your thoughts!!

An Awesome Coffee Cake Glaze Recipe

The awesome glaze elevates this classic moist coffee cake, adding a lovely maple and espresso hit. It’s easy to make too, just a handful of ingredients and one bowl, a few minutes of whisking and voila – it’s the icing on the cake!

Decorating Your Cake with Flowers

There is something truly special about fresh flowers on a cake, but flowers don’t have to be reserved for wedding cakes and other super special occasions. They are a great way to create and added wow factor to your moist coffee cake, and it’s such a simple thing to do.

While there’s a world of beautiful flowers out there, not all of them are safe to use on something edible like a cake. Flowers like hydrangeas and baby’s breath, while popular in bouquets, are actually toxic. Even if you aren’t eating the actual flowers, just contact with the buttercream you will eat could be dangerous, so it’s best to stick with flowers that are edible.

Flowers that are beautiful as well as edible include roses, calendulas, nasturtiums, hibiscus, violets, and sunflowers, among others. One category that’s also pretty safe from top to bottom are herbs like rosemary, thyme, and chamomile.

Wash and dry the flowers completely before using to get rid of any dirt or little bugs that could potentially be lingering inside. Cut the stalks of the flowers so they are only a couple of centimeters long, strip the flowers of most of their leaves, and remove any thorns if they have them.

Once you’ve arranged the flowers on your cake, keep the cake in the refrigerator until it’s ready to be served, so that the flowers stay fresh.

Top Tips For Delicious and Moist Coffee Cake

  • Use a preheated oven.
  • Make sure you grease the bundt pan.
  • It might seem like not enough batter for the baking pan, but it rises significantly in the oven to reach proper cake proportions.
  • Serve wit a cup of strong coffee!
