Sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day to make a homemade cherry pie from scratch, BUT do not fret because these fried cherry pies are just.as.good. In only 5 easy steps you have the tastiest and easiest (truly the easiest!) mini fried cherry pies to share with your loved ones… or to keep for yourself. They’re great alone or on the side with a bowl of cherry or vanilla ice cream.

Now, you could make your own homemade dough, but that would definitely add to the prep time. So don’t tell anyone, but we did use a pre-made pie crust (shhhhhh!). It’s something we don’t do often, but feel like it’s okay in our busy lifestyles! There’s also a stipulation because you kind of have to use Luxardo Maraschino Cherries or something comparable.

The thick juice and luxuriousness of these cherries are what make the pies so good. These fried cherry pies have a high-low aspect to them, ha!

Cherry Pie Filling

The key to any great pie is the filling, and these cherry pies benefit greatly from using a cherry with a rich liqueur, such as Luxardo cherries. These cherries are dense and chewy with a sweet-tart flavor, in a sauce that has a wonderfully sour tang, perfect!

Tips For Fried Cherry Pies

  • Keep an eye on those pies as they fry, you’re looking for a nice golden brown color.
  • Use a non flavored vegetable oil for frying, to not overshadow the flavor of the pie.
  • Pat the pies down after frying, to remove excess oil.
  • Easiest way to really coat the pies in a nice layer of sugar, is to toss them in a bowl.
