These cherry pies are crispy, sweet and packed full of luxurious cherries. The cherries have a thick juice, which makes these delicious pillows of yumminess extra special. The best part? They are so simple to make!

Fried cherry pies and ice cream, side shot

Sometimes there’s just not enough time in the day to make a homemade cherry pie from scratch, BUT do not fret because these fried cherry pies are just.as.good. In only 5 easy steps you have the tastiest and easiest (truly the easiest!) mini fried cherry pies to share with your loved ones… or to keep for yourself. They’re great alone or on the side with a bowl of cherry or vanilla ice cream. Now, you could make your own homemade dough, but that would definitely add to the prep time. So don’t tell anyone, but we did use a pre-made pie crust (shhhhhh!). It’s something we don’t do often, but feel like it’s okay in our busy lifestyles! There’s also a stipulation because you kind of have to use Luxardo Maraschino Cherries or something comparable. The thick juice and luxuriousness of these cherries are what make the pies so good. These fried cherry pies have a high-low aspect to them, ha! Get the steps for these delicious pies of cherry goodness below…

How To Make Fried Cherry Pies – Step By Step

  • Step 1: Unroll the dough
  • Step 2: Cut each circle using a 3.25″ or 3.5″ pastry cutter
  • Step 3: Fill each circle with 2-3 cherries and close it up like a taco pinching the sides together sealing any holes.
  • Step 4: Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot and fry those cherry pies until golden brown!
  • Step 5: Toss in a bowl with sugar and enjoy!

An Easy Cherry Pie

Did I mention just how easy these cherry pies are to make ;)? These are perfect for any last minute gathering or a special treat. The store bought dough works perfectly for this recipe and makes prep time super quick. Dust with a bit of powdered sugar and pop in a bowl, they look and taste delicious!

Cherry Pie Filling

The key to any great pie is the filling, and these cherry pies benefit greatly from using a cherry with a rich liqueur, such as Luxardo cherries. These cherries are dense and chewy with a sweet-tart flavor, in a sauce that has a wonderfully sour tang, perfect!

Sweet Empanadas

Although we’re using store bought pie dough, these cherry pies are somewhat akin to sweet empanadas, in the way they come together. After placing the cherries in the cut out dough, pinch the sides together and you have delightful and perfectly packaged little pillows of tastiness.

Top Tips For Fried Cherry Pies

  • Keep an eye on those pies as they fry, you’re looking for a nice golden brown color.
  • Use a non flavored vegetable oil for frying, to not overshadow the flavor of the pie.
  • Pat the pies down after frying, to remove excess oil.
  • Easiest way to really coat the pies in a nice layer of sugar, is to toss them in a bowl.
