Happy Halloween!! I’m super excited to take Romeo trick-or-treating this year! Unfortunately, we live on a private road so we don’t get many kids, but we’ll be wandering the neighborhood, which is very festive. For any of you entertaining or keeping it cozy inside while passing out candy, we have a really fun cocktail for you.

This smoking lavender blueberry martini is made with homemade blueberry lavender simple syrup, fresh blueberries and then we used a little dry ice to make it smoke!

Obviously, you want the dry ice to fully melt before you take a sip, but what a gorgeous presentation, right?! See the delicious recipe below and have a wonderful Halloween!

How To Make a Lavender Blueberry Martini

Simple Syrup

  • Put all ingredients over medium high heat until the blueberries start to burst and the mixture thickens.
  • Remove from heat to cool. Makes 11 oz of simple syrup.

Blueberry Lavender Martini

  • Mix 2 oz vodka and 2 oz simple syrup in a shaker with ice. Shake and pour into a martini glass.
  • Add lavender bitters and spring of fresh lavender to finish. To make it “smoking,” add a little bit of dry ice using gloves and tongs.
  • Make sure you let the ice fully melt before taking a sip!

Dy Ice

Of course, it’s great without the dry ice, but if you want to add it then here are some tips for using dry ice:

Dry ice is safe to use in cocktails, it will not alter the flavor in any way.

You’ll need a hammer, screwdriver, and goggles to chisel your block of dry ice into ‘cubes’.  You can also crush the ice for a more subtle effect.

Drop the cubes (using tongs) into the bottom of your cocktail or punch bowl and it will immediately start to smoke.

Homemade Simple Syrup

Simple syrup forms the base of many a great cocktail and is, well, simple to make! Also referred to as “sugar syrup,” simple syrup is a liquefied form of sugar that is commonly used to sweeten cocktails, iced tea, iced coffee, lemonade, and other cold drinks. Because it is a liquid sweetener, it is much easier to blend into cold beverages than regular sugar.

This simple syrup contains lavender, which complements the blueberries wonderfully. Lavender makes the simple syrup aromatic and floral. lavender is embraced for its calming, soothing properties.

This lavender Syrup adds semi-sweet, herbal floral flavor and beautiful, light purple color to this lavender blueberry martini.

A Blueberry Martini

This cocktail is a twist on the classic martini, by adding blueberries. Blueberries are less tart than raspberries and blackberries with a mellower, but not necessarily sweeter flavor closer to concentrated apple or pear than citrus. They give this lavender blueberry martini a lovely sour twist, without being too tart.

  • Shake the mix in a shaker, with ice, until the shaker is completely cold.
  • Use Gloves and tongs when handling dry ice.
  • Make sure the dry ice is fully melted before drinking.
