Frequently Asked Questions

Is Apple Pie Moonshine Illegal?

Don’t worry. Despite the name, this prohibition-era cocktail is completely legal unless you’re brewing your own hooch at home. In this recipe, we use Everclear, but there are a variety of legal moonshines on the market that blend well with the other flavors in this cocktail.

Is Everclear Moonshine?

Technically, no. But, it does have a history of prohibition! And, while it’s not officially black-market booze, Everclear is perfect for mixing up your homemade apple pie moonshine.

Does Homemade Apple Pie Moonshine Spoil?

Using high proof alcohol like Everclear will prolong your homemade apple pie moonshine’s shelf life. So, before you try making this drink with your favorite spirits, double-check the label for high alcohol content.

Can Apple Pie Moonshine Be at Room Temperature?

You can store your apple moonshine in sealed mason jars in a cool, dry place, rather than the refrigerator. And, if you used liquor with a high percentage of alcohol, it should stay fresh for years. Just be sure to keep your jars completely closed and out of the sun.

Does Apple Pie Moonshine Need to Be Refrigerated?

If you’re planning to save a jar for your grandkids, yes. Storing your moonshine in the refrigerator will make it last longer. But it probably won’t be necessary.

If you’d rather try this recipe with a lower percentage of alcohol, storing it for a shorter time in the refrigerator may help keep it from spoiling.

What to Add to Moonshine to Make It Taste Better?

If you like the idea of this recipe but want to ramp up the flavor, why not give apple cider moonshine a try? This variation won’t feature the same spicy tastes of fall but instead will have a bright and fruity kick, bursting with fresh apples.

Cinnamon moonshine is another great option, perfect for warming up on brisk fall nights. For an exotic twist, throw in a few extra spices like clove and star anise. This drink also makes for an exciting addition to a rustic modern Thanksgiving meal

Since everyone has a different standard of how strong a drink is, it’s best to start with less alcohol in a recipe and then slowly add more as you taste. Start with two cups and see what you think!
You can always add more, but can’t take it out once it’s in the cider mixture.
You can also use vodka for this recipe but Everclear is more traditional for moonshine.
