We’ve given the classic Rice Krispie treats a little spook and turns them into mummies! These brown-butter rice Krispie treat mummies are the perfect, easy Halloween treat to serve at any Halloween party. Kids and adults will love them!

Just like our 4th Of July Rice Krispie Treats, we can’t get over how adorable these little mummies are. We also love this recipe… it’s truly the best Rice Krispie treats recipe! It’s made with brown butter which adds a lot of flavor.

We used candy melts to turn them into mummies. My kids went crazy over these!

We got this cute idea from our mummy cupcakes and our mummy brownies. They’re always a hit and easy to make.

How to Make Rice Krispie Treats

They’re actually really easy to make! Our favorite way is to brown the butter first to give them even more flavor and nuttiness. We also add vanilla extract too.

Supplies

Ingredients

Rice Krispies – You’ll need 12 ounces. See the recipe card below.

Marshmallows – You’ll need about 60-80 large marshmallows.

Salted Butter – You’ll use 2 sticks of butter, 1 cup.

Vanilla extracts

Directions

  • Gather and measure all of the ingredients.
  • In a large pot, melt salted butter until golden brown.
  • The browning process is important as you want the butter to brown for the flavor of the Rice Krispie treats.
  • Once the butter is melted, add the vanilla extract.
  • On low heat, add in the marshmallows and coat them in butter by turning them with a wooden spoon.
  • The marshmallows will begin to melt as you stir.
  • Stir until they are fully melted, like marshmallow cream.
  • Remove from heat and add in the Rice Krispies Cereal and stir until it’s very sticky and blends.

  • Pour the mixture into a buttered 13×9 cake pan.

  • Use a spatula to spread the Rice Krispie treats around in the pan.

  • The absolute best and only way to press the mixture into the cake pan is by using parchment paper. It doesn’t stick to the marshmallow mixture, and you can easily press down firmly, getting an even layer of Rice Krispies.

  • Once they’re evenly pressed in the pan, let them set for an hour before cutting.

You can enjoy them like this as they are SO good or you can turn them into mummies!!

The best way to cut Rice Krispie Treats

Letting the Rice Krispie treats sit for an hour to cool is key for cutting them. This will make it much easier to get a knife through the treats.

Use a buttered knife to slice down the center of the pan and then cut rectangles. You will want to eat them ALL so restrain!

How to Make Mummy Rice Krispie Treats for Halloween

These are the perfect treats to bring to a Halloween party! They’re pretty easy to make too and you don’t need to be an expert at cake or cookie decorating.

  • Melt 1 bag of white candy melts and add in 1 tablespoon of canola oil to thin it out.
  • Dip the cut Rice Krispie treats into the melted candy melts to coat the top and sides. You can leave the bottom uncoated.
  • Let them sit on the parchment paper to dry.
  • Melt another bag of candy melts and add to a piping bag.
  • Cut a small hole at the end to pipe on the mummy badges.
  • Go back and forth, starting from the top, making lines across the dipped Rice Krispie treats.
  • Add two little eyes to finish them.
  • Let them sit to dry for about 20 minutes.

The messier you make the bandages, the better! They don’t have to be perfect, and they look better when they’re crossed and random too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I make Rice Krispie Treats on the same day?

They are best the day they’re made, but if you need the extra time to make them into mummies, you can make them the day before. Just seal them tightly and store them on a counter at room temperature.

How long does a homemade Rice Krispie treat last?

If they are sealed airtight, they can last up to three days at room temperature. They can also be frozen for up to six weeks.

Rice Krispie Treats Variations

Change it up and add different flavored marshmallows, like strawberries! Or use chocolate Rice Krispies to make them.

You can also add peanut butter and different extracts as well. There are so many variations you can do. Just be creative!

Ingredients

  • 8 ounces salted butter , 2 sticks butter (1 cup)

  • Press dowin using parchment paper to make an evne layer in the cake pan.
  • Let them sit for 1 hour, then cut into rectangles with a buttered knife.

Mummies

  • Melt the candy melts in the microwave in 30 second intervals.
  • Add in 1 tablespoon Canola oil to thin out out the candy melts.
  • Stir well and then dip the treats into the candy melts to coat them.
  • Melt anthoer bag of candy meltd and fill a piping bag.
  • Cut a hole at the bottom to make mummy bandages.
  • Add two eyes on the Rice Krispie treats.

Notes

Make sure to brown the butter when making these rice Krispie treats.
