Arnold Palmer cocktail with lemonade and iced tea.

Growing up with a father who loved to golf, we knew what an Arnold Palmer was at a very young age! The drink that combined iced tea and lemonade and was served on the gold course like water!

The name of this non-alcoholic beverage came from American professional golfer Arnold Palmer who was known to enjoy them often.

We’re sharing an easy version of how we made them growing up. They’re refreshing, simple to make and great for a hot summer day. You can also make a pitcher for an outdoor gathering!

What kind of tea is in Arnold Palmer?

An Arnold Palmer is made with unsweetened black tea. However, if you prefer sweeter you can use a brewed sweet tea as well.

How do you make the perfect Arnold Palmer?

It’s very simple! To make the perfect Arnold Palmer, you’ll add equal parts iced black tea and homemade lemonade into a glass filled with ice. Stir and then garnish with a lemon slice.

The half & half version, sometimes this drink is called a half & half, is the perfect combination of lemonade and tea. It makes a very refreshing drink that’s perfect for sipping.

Homemade lemonade to make an Arnold Palmer

To make this drink the best it can be, make a batch of our homemade lemonade. It’s lightly sweetened and perfect for an Arnold Palmer. For the tea, you can either brew your own black tea or buy high quality, unsweetened iced tea to use.

Arnold Palmer Drink Tips

  • Use homemade lemonade.
  • To make it easy, buy black iced tea to add to the drink.
  • Serve over ice.
  • Add a spirit to the drink to make it spiked.
  • Stir to combine the ingredients.

Why is half and half called Arnold Palmer?

This is because the drink is made with half lemonade and half iced tea, thus a half & half! Some recipes call for 3/4 iced tea and 1/4 lemonade, however, the true and easiest way to make an Arnold Palmer is half & half.

What is in an Arnold Palmer spiked?

An Arnold Palmer spiked is the classic half & half drink with added spirit. The best spirit to add would be vodka, gin or rum to the lemonade and iced tea mixture. It makes a quick and delicious cocktail.

For 1/2 cup lemonade, 1/2 cup iced tea add in 2 ounces spirit like vodka. This will make a delicious spiked Arnold Palmer.
