This blood orange spritz is the ruby-red cocktail you’ll make on repeat all season long. Fresh citrus, Aperol, and bubbles. It does not get better than this!

If you’ve been looking for a cocktail that is as gorgeous as it is delicious, this Blood Orange Spritz is about to become your new obsession. With its jewel-toned ruby-red color, effervescent bubbles, and perfectly bittersweet flavor, this drink is practically made for entertaining or for a solo treat on a sunny afternoon. You can also pair it with my blood orange cheesecake!

I’m a big Aperol Spritz lover, but the moment blood orange season hits, I make this elevated version every chance I get. The fresh blood orange juice adds this gorgeous depth of flavor and that unmistakable crimson hue that you simply cannot get from a bottle.

What is a Blood Orange Spritz?

A Blood Orange Spritz is a riff on the classic Italian Aperol Spritz. This version adds freshly squeezed blood orange juice for a vibrant citrus note and a breathtaking color. Light, slightly bitter, a little sweet, and completely irresistible. If you love spritz recipes, this one belongs at the top of your list.

I have a blood orange tree in my backyard, so the moment those ruby fruits are ready to pick, this is the first thing I make. Blood oranges taste more complex and raspberry-like than a regular orange, which makes them absolutely perfect in cocktails!

Blood Orange Spritz Ingredients

Blood Orange Juice: I have a blood orange tree in my backyard, but you can find them at your local farmers’ market, Whole Foods, or most grocery stores. If they are not in season, any fresh orange juice works just as well!

Aperol: This Italian bitter liqueur is the backbone of any good spritz. Find it in the wine and spirits aisle at most grocery stores.

Prosecco: Use a dry prosecco for the best balance. Nothing too sweet! I also love it in this Carrot Spritz and this Hugo Spritz. If you want more prosecco cocktail ideas, try my Sparkling Ginger Prosecco Cocktail and Prosecco Punch.

Blood Orange Soda: I love using blood orange soda for an extra citrus punch, but any orange soda works great too!

How to Make a Blood Orange Spritz

  1. Fill a large wine glass with crushed ice.
  2. Add the blood orange juice and Aperol.
  3. Top with prosecco and blood orange soda.
  4. Give it a gentle stir, garnish with a blood orange slice, and enjoy!

Eden’s Recipe Tips

Make sure you fill your wine glass all the way to the top with ice. I love using a giant wine glass for a spritz!

You have to garnish. It’s not a spritz without one! I love using a blood orange slice, dehydrated orange slices, or even edible flowers to make it extra beautiful.

You don’t need an expensive bottle of prosecco for a spritz. Save the good stuff for sipping on its own.
