This lemon spritz is sunshine in a glass! I created it for a lemon-themed gathering, and it was such a hit, I’ve made it nonstop since. It’s zesty, bubbly, and ridiculously refreshing—basically Amalfi in a glass.

Lemon Spritz Ingredients

This recipe is made with simple ingredients found at local liquor stores and grocery stores.

Fresh Lemon Juice – Freshly squeezed lemon juice is best.

Limoncello – Lemon liqueur adds a hint of sweetness. You can also make homemade limoncello and store it in the freezer.

Prosecco – A sparkling white wine lends light bubbles and flavor. Any bottle of Prosecco or white sparkling wine will work for this recipe.

Simple Syrup – To sweeten the lemon spritz without adding too much sugar.

Club Soda or Ginger Beer – You can use soda water for a less sweet cocktail. You could also use tonic water if you prefer that.

Tip – If you prefer the flavor of ginger and a little more sweetness, add ginger beer. Both are delicious! You can also use flavored sparkling water such as lemon or elderflower.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is limoncello spritz made of?

A Limoncello spritz is typically made with limoncello, Prosecco, soda water, and fresh lemon juice. Some variations may also include mint leaves or other ingredients for added flavor.

What alcohol is in a spritz?

The alcohol in a spritz cocktail typically comes from wine, such as Prosecco or Champagne. Some recipes may also call for a small amount of liqueur, such as Aperol or Campari, which can add a bitter or herbal note to the drink. Spritzes are light and refreshing cocktails perfect for warm weather or as an aperitif.

What’s limoncello?

Limoncello is an Italian liqueur made from lemon zest, alcohol, water, and sugar. It has a bright and fresh lemon flavor and is often served as a digestif or used in cocktails like the limoncello spritz. It can also be enjoyed over ice as a refreshing after-dinner drink.

What is the difference between limoncello spritz and Aperol Spritz?

The limoncello spritz is sweet, citrusy, and lemon-forward, made with limoncello, Prosecco, and soda water, while the Aperol spritz is slightly bitter and herbaceous, featuring Aperol, Prosecco, and soda water. Limoncello spritz has a pale yellow hue, whereas Aperol spritz is vibrant orange, offering distinct flavor profiles for different preferences.

Ingredients

  • 1 ounce limoncello
  • 1/2 ounce lemon juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup
  • 3 ounces Prosecco
  • 1 ounce club soda, or ginger beer.

Instructions

  • Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
  • Add lemon juice, limoncello, and simple syrup.
  • Shake for 20 seconds.
  • Strain into a coupe or a wine glass.
  • Pour the Prosecco over the top.
  • Add a splash of club soda or you can use ginger beer.

Notes

If serving this drink in a coupe, shake it for 30 seconds to make it extra cold.
Use chilled ingredients for a perfectly chilled limoncello spritz. You can even make Prosecco ice cubes by pouring the bubbly into an ice cube tray and freezing it overnight.
Keep your drink fizzy by storing leftover open bottles in the fridge with a metal spoon inside (handle side down). This will help preserve the bubbles for your next serving.
Make a pitcher of limoncello spritz and pour it into individual glasses once all the ingredients are combined. This method also allows for easier refills during gatherings or parties.
If serving it in a wine glass, serve it over ice to keep it cool.
