How to Make Banana Pudding
This recipe couldn’t be creamier and flavorful. With cream cheese, heavy cream and condensed milk, I think it’s one of the most flavorful puddings without being overwhelming.
Ingredients
- Cream Cheese
- Sweetened Condensed Milk
- Instant Vanilla Pudding
- Cold Milk
- Heavy Cream
- Vanilla Extract
- Bananas
Directions
Homemade Whipped Cream
First, make the homemade whipped cream that you will later fold into the mixture It’s very simple to make! With the whisk attachment, whip 1 cup heavy cream until it thickens.
Softening the Cream Cheese
Next, you need to make sure the cream cheese is completely softened. You can actually remove the foil, place the cream cheese in a microwave-safe bowl and heat it for 15-20 seconds.
The other option is to take it out a few hours before you make the recipe and let it come to room temperature. If it’s cold you will have little chunks of cream cheese. We want a very creamy, smooth texture.
Once the cream cheese is fully softened, use an electric mixer fitted with the paddle attachment and beat until light in texture with no lumps.
Whipping all of the Ingredients Together
Beat in the condensed milk, pudding mix, cold milk, heavy cream, and vanilla extract.
Beat until completely smooth. Note, it will not be a thick consistency yet. It will be more watery and as it sits it becomes thicker. So don’t be alarmed! It takes time to set.
Folding the Whipped Cream into the Pudding
Next, fold in the whipped cream you made previously. Do this by adding it to the pudding mix and then using a spatula to gently fold the mixture until it’s all incorporated.
Save the extra whipped cream for the top!
Slice 4 peeled bananas and add a few pieces to the bottom of the dish you’re serving it in.
Quick Tips: You can actually serve this in anything you want! Make a large batch and layer it in a 9×13 pan or make individual cups as we did!
Layering with Bananas
Add the pudding over the top, covering the bananas. This is where you would also layer in wafers cookies if you prefer!
Continue the layering pattern until you reach the top of your dish.
Add whipped cream, sliced bananas, and crushed cookies to the top.
Then, get ready to have the BEST banana pudding ever! It’s the perfect pudding for parties and entertaining! Serve it with a yummy cocktail for dessert!
How long will banana pudding keep?
It will last 3-4 days covered in the refrigerator.
Does banana pudding need to be refrigerated?
Yes, refrigerate the pudding once it’s made. You can actually refrigerate it for up to 3 days covered. Then, assemble right before you serve the pudding.
This way the bananas won’t turn brown. If you’re serving the same day, assemble and refrigerate until serving. The bananas covered in the pudding will not brown too much the same day.
Why is my banana pudding watery?
After you add all of the ingredients and whip the pudding, it will NOT be a thick consistency. It needs to set and within just 30 minutes you will have a thicker consistency.
