This sake sour is a light and refreshing cocktail to serve this Halloween. With just a handful of fresh ingredients, it perfectly balances citrusy, herbal, and smooth. You can make it year-round, but I’ve twisted it to make it perfect for a spooky season!

Sake sour recipe with a creamy foam top.

I have always loved sake and making fun cocktails with it. It’s a traditional Japanese alcoholic beverage made from fermented rice. Typically, sake has a lower alcohol content than spirits like vodka or gin, making this cocktail a lighter option.

You can make this cocktail year-round, but I loved the light green color for Halloween, and it’s an excellent option for a lighter drink.

You will also love my sparkling sake sangria, classic whiskey sour, and make-ahead sake cocktails.

Why You’ll Love This Sake Sour

  • Light, refreshing, and simple.
  • Great alternative to stronger, spirit-based cocktails.
  • Cucumbers add a fresh, spa like flavor.
  • Egg white creates a silky, frothy texture.
  • Remove the Halloween garnishes to make this year-round.

Ingredients in a Sake Sour

Cucumbers: These add a cool, refreshing base to the drink, offering a crisp, subtle flavor that complements the sake.

Lime juice: Provides a bright, tangy acidity that balances the sweetness and adds a zesty kick.

Simple syrup: A touch of sweetness to smooth out the tartness of the lime and balance the drink.

Sake: The star of the cocktail, this light rice wine brings a smooth, delicate flavor with a lower alcohol content.

Egg white: This is optional, however it creates a silky, frothy texture, giving the cocktail a luxurious mouthfeel and a beautiful foam top.

Recipe Tips

Chill Your Sake: Keep your sake chilled before making the cocktail to ensure a crisp and refreshing drink.

Dry Shake for More Foam: Shake the cocktail ingredients without ice first (dry shake) to fully emulsify the egg white, creating a frothy foam on top.

Garnish Creatively: Besides the herb bundle, try garnishing with a cucumber ribbon or a lime twist for extra flair.

Adjust the Sweetness: If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, increase the amount of simple syrup slightly. For a more tart drink, add more lime juice.
