Aperol Spritz Ingredients
Unflavored gelatin: Helps the shots set firmly and gives them that perfect jiggly texture.
Fresh squeezed orange juice: Adds natural citrus flavor and brightness.
Boiling water: Dissolves the gelatin and Jello to create a smooth mixture.
Orange Jello: Enhances the color and adds a sweet, fruity base.
Aperol: Brings the signature spritz flavor with notes of orange, rhubarb, and herbs.
Prosecco: Adds a bubbly, festive touch and a little sparkle to each bite.
Oranges (for the peel cups): Serve as adorable, edible vessels for the shots and make the presentation extra special.
Directions
Juice the oranges: Slice your oranges in half and use a juicer to extract all that delicious juice. You’ll need about ½ cup for this recipe. Tip: Choose large oranges with firm peels – they’ll be your little jello shot cups!
Reserve the orange halves: Gently scoop out any leftover pulp and line the orange halves on a baking sheet or in a muffin tin to keep them stable.
Make the base: In a medium mixing bowl, pour in the fresh orange juice and sprinkle the unflavored gelatin over the top. Give it a gentle stir and let it sit for 2 minutes to bloom.
Add the hot water + Jello: Pour in the boiling water and stir in the orange Jello until fully dissolved.
Finish with Aperol and Prosecco: Stir in the Aperol and bubbly Prosecco.
Fill the orange cups: Carefully pour the mixture into the prepared orange halves. Fill them up, but leave a tiny bit of space at the top.
Chill: Place the tray in the refrigerator and chill for at least 2-4 hours or overnight until set.
Slice and serve: Once set, slice each orange half into quarters using a sharp knife. You’ll end up with Aperol jello wedges that look like the cutest little citrus slices!
Recipe Tips
These are best served the same day they’re made for the freshest flavor and texture.
They usually set in the fridge within 2 to 4 hours, but make sure they’re fully firm before slicing.
For the best presentation, use medium to large oranges so there’s plenty of room for the jello mixture.
You can easily make these non-alcoholic by using zero-proof Aperol and non-alcoholic Prosecco alternatives.
You can also pour the mixture into little shot glasses if you prefer a simpler presentation or want to skip the orange peels.
