Agua fresca is one of my go-to drinks when the weather heats up! It’s super easy to make, ultra refreshing, and always hits the spot. Just blend fruit, water, lime juice, and a little sweetener, and you’ve got the perfect drink to sip all day long.

I’m sharing four of my favorite combos: Watermelon Cucumber Lime, Mango Pineapple, Peach Lavender, and Guava Coconut. Let’s blend up a batch (or two)!

Agua Fresca Inspired by LA Street Fairs

One of my favorite things about warm days in LA is spotting those big glass jars of agua fresca at street fairs and farmers’ markets. You just know it’s going to be a good day when you’re sipping one of those icy, fruit-filled drinks!

They’re usually served from oversized glass barrels with a ladle and poured into plastic cups—simple, nostalgic, and so refreshing.

How to Make Any Agua Fresca (in 3 easy steps!)

You only need 4 cups of chopped fruit, 3 cups water, 1/2 – 1 cup of sugar or maple syrup (more or less), and the juice of 1 lime. Here’s how to throw it all together.

  1. Chop your fruit into chunks—anything from watermelon to mango works!
  2. Blend it up with the lime juice and sweetener until smooth. I do this in batches if my blender’s full.
  3. Pour the fruit mixture into a pitcher, add the water and a handful of ice, and give it a stir.

Pro tip: Want it extra smooth? Strain it through a sieve before adding the water and ice.

4 Delicious Agua Fresca Recipes + Flavor Combos

These are some of our favorite combos, and they’re all SO good. You can totally customize them depending on what fruit and herbs you have!

1. Mango & Pineapple Agua Fresca

Tropical, sweet, and super refreshing!
Ingredients: Pineapple, mango, sugar, water

2. Peach & Lavender Agua Fresca

A soft floral twist that’s perfect for late summer or early fall. Use dried lavender if you don’t have fresh.
Ingredients: Peaches, lavender, sugar, water

3. Watermelon, Cucumber & Lime Agua Fresca

Classic and ultra-hydrating—my go-to for hot days.
Ingredients: Watermelon, cucumber, lime juice, sugar, water

4. Guava & Coconut Agua Fresca

Creamy, tropical, and unique! We use guava paste and coconut milk for this one.
Ingredients: Guava paste, coconut milk, water

Recipe Tips

Prep your fruit right: Peel and remove any rinds, seeds, or tough skins before chopping. You want smooth, juicy fruit for the best flavor.

Sweeten your way: Use whatever sweetener you love—sugar, agave, honey, maple syrup, or even stevia. Taste and adjust!

Blend it smooth: A high-speed blender (like a Vitamix) makes all the difference when blending fruit into a silky base.

Strain if you want: For a smoother drink, pour the blended mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove pulp.

Work in batches: If your blender’s on the smaller side, blend the fruit in two parts and mix everything together in a pitcher.

How to Store Agua Fresca

Agua fresca is best enjoyed fresh, but you can store it in the fridge for up to 3 days. Just keep it in a sealed pitcher or bottle, and skip the ice until you’re ready to serve so it doesn’t get watered down. It’s also a great make-ahead option, blend it a day before your party and chill!

Set Up an Agua Fresca Bar

If you’re hosting, make it fun with an Agua fresca bar! Whip up a few big batches in different flavors and pour them into large glass containers or drink dispensers.

Add cups, ladles, and a tray of fresh fruit for garnish. It’s a charming and colorful setup guests will love.

Ingredients

Mango & Pineapple Agua Fresca Recipe

  • 4 mangoes, skin removed, cut into chunks. Save 1 mango to cut into chunks to garnish.
  • 2 pineapples , skin removed, cut into chunks. Save 1/4 of the pineapple chunks for garnishing.
  • 1 cup sugar , or your preferred sweetener
  • 9 cups water

Peach & Lavender Agua Fresca Recipe

  • 12 peaches, skin removed, sliced
  • 1/2 cup lavender, fresh or dried
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 16 cups water

Watermelon, Cucumber & Lime Agua Fresca Recipe

  • 2 cucumbers, skin removed
  • 1 watermelon (save 1/4 for chunks and garnish), rind removed, cut into chunks. Save 1/4 for chunks to garnish
  • 1/2 cup lime juice, fresh squeezed
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 8 cups water

Guava & Coconut Agua Fresca Recipe

  • 42 oz guava, canned
  • 54 oz coconut milk
  • 16 cups water

Instructions

  • Peel and chop up your fruit—no skins or rinds allowed! (If you’re making the guava coconut version, skip this step since the paste and milk are ready to go.)
  • Toss the fruit and sugar into your blender—don’t add the water just yet. If your blender’s like mine and can’t handle it all at once, no worries—just blend in batches.
  • Once it’s smooth, pour it into a big drink dispenser or barrel, then add the water and plenty of ice. Want it silky smooth? Strain it through a sieve before mixing in the water and ice.
  • Toss in your fruit chunks, berries, and give it all a happy stir with the ice.
  • Each recipe makes 6 quarts!

Notes

Use half bag of ice for serving.
Add more sugar for a sweeter Agua Fresca.
Use a sieve to strain the mixture for a smoother drink.
Use a ladle to serve.
