I like to serve baked brie year-round, and since Halloween is just around the corner, I’ve made it a ghoulish delight by tuning it into mummy brie! This is the one dish that always appears at my parties. This gooey appetizer not only looks impressive but also tastes incredible.

I like to serve this at my Halloween pumpkin carving party. It’s a great way to keep everyone full and satisfied while they work on their pumpkin masterpieces. I serve it with my Halloween cheese platter and pumpkin cornbread.

Ingredients to make mummy brie.

Ingredients

  • Brie – 8 to 10 ounces of brie wheel.
  • Frozen puff pastry – You have to buy the box but make something else or freeze the extra.
  • Egg yolk – This is for an egg wash to give the puff pastry a golden color.
  • Sprinkle eyes – These are for decoration.

Recipe Tips and Variations

  • Thaw the puff pastry according to package instructions before using it.
  • You can use any shape of the brie wheel for this recipe, but a circular one works best for creating the mummy effect.
  • If you want a sweeter version, add some jam or honey on top of the brie before wrapping it in pastry.
  • Instead of puff pastry, you can use phyllo dough for a flakier texture.
  • Instead of sprinkling eyes, use raisins.

How to Tell When Brie is Done Baking

Knowing when your mummy brie is perfectly baked is essential for achieving that gooey, delicious texture. One key indicator is the golden brown color of the puff pastry; this typically means it has fully cooked and created a crisp outer layer. Additionally, you should look for the cheese starting to ooze out of the pastry seams—this is a sure sign that the brie is warm and melty inside.

Serving Suggestions

Mummy Brie is delicious on its own, but if you want to elevate it even further, here are some serving suggestions:

  • Serve with crackers or toasted bread slices for a quick and easy appetizer.
  • Add fresh fruits such as grapes, apples, or figs on the side for a refreshing balance to the rich cheese.
  • For a more substantial meal, serve alongside a warm soup or salad.
