We all scream for nice cream! If you haven’t heard of nice cream, it’s a banana-based “ice cream” recipe, but a healthy version with zero added sugar or dairy!

Colorful nice cream in plastic cups with bananas and raspberries and kiwis on them

We created 3 nice cream recipes by adding in kiwis and raspberries to make pretty colors and fun flavors.

When we were in Marseille France, we stopped at a small gelato shop and they were selling adorable, pre-portioned gelato scoops in small plastic shot glasses, which I thought was genius and perfect for parties.

The colors and toppings inspired me to do something similar, thus these frozen treats came to life!

They’re perfect for kids too since they’re really just getting a good serving of fruit and a low sugar dessert.

Below we’re answering some of your questions for making this dairy-free treat and sharing our recipe!

Small cup of layered nice cream with a banana and kiwi on top.

What is nice cream made of?

This is a dairy-free ice cream alternative and is made with bananas, coconut milk, or almond milk and fruit. It’s also free of any added or processed sugars.

Why is it called nice cream?

It’s called nice cream because it’s inspired by the classic, creamy ice cream we all love but nicer for your body! Since it doesn’t have added sugar or dairy, this is easier to digest and healthier overall. It’s better for you than traditional ice cream.

Can you freeze nice cream?

You can, although nice cream is not meant to be fully frozen as you want it to have a creamy texture. If you freeze it for too long it will become icy. It’s best if you freeze it 1 hour before serving.

If you need to freeze extra, make sure to let it thaw on the counter for about 20-30 minutes before serving.

How do you thicken nice cream?

If you’re having a hard time getting the right creamy, thick consistency you can add in frozen fruit or more bananas. This will help thicken it up a bit.

Layering the different flavors in a small, clear glass or plastic cup looks beautiful and is great for individual servings.
