This elderflower sangria recipe is truly special to me — so much so that I included it in my book Entertaining with Charm because I love it that much. It’s light, refreshing, and full of floral notes that make it the ultimate spring or summer cocktail.

Why You’ll Love This Elderflower Sangria

My Elderflower sangria recipe is similar to my traditional white sangria recipe but with elderflower liqueur, orange liqueur and strawberries, raspberries and edible flowers.

It’s the most beautiful cocktail for spring or a charming Valentine’s Day party with friends and would go great with a cheese platter.

This sangria is bursting with color and the subtle aromas and taste of elderflower and crisp Sauvignon Blanc is the perfect combination.

Elderflower Sangria Ingredients

Sauvignon Blanc (or Pinot Grigio): A crisp, dry white wine forms the base. Sauvignon Blanc brings citrusy, grassy notes. Pinot Grigio gives a softer, fruit-forward flavor. Choose a wine you’d happily sip on its own.

Elderflower Liqueur (St. Germain): The star ingredient! This sweet, floral French liqueur has notes of pear, lychee, and honeysuckle. It’s elegant and adds both depth and fragrance. I use it in my French spritz too!

Cointreau (or Triple Sec): A high-quality orange liqueur that enhances the fruity flavor and adds a subtle brightness. I use this in all of my margarita recipes too!

Strawberries & Raspberries: These berries infuse sweetness and a pop of red color. Strawberries give juiciness while raspberries bring a tart, tangy bite.

Orange Slices: Adds citrusy freshness and a touch of bitterness to balance the sweetness.

Lemon Slices: Brightens the sangria with acidity and freshness.

Sparkling Water (orange or lemon flavored): A splash at the end adds bubbles and lightens the drink — just like I do in my watermelon sangria.

Edible Flowers: Beyond their beauty, flowers like pansies, violets, and lavender add subtle aromas. They make this drink truly unforgettable.

How to Make Elderflower Sangria

1. Wash and slice all of the fruit into thin rounds or small pieces.

2. In a large pitcher, combine wine, elderflower liqueur, Cointreau, and all the prepared fruit.

3. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour (or overnight for stronger fruit flavor).

4. Just before serving, stir in sparkling water and add edible flowers and floral ice cubes.

Eden’s Sangria Tips

Chill Before Serving – Let the sangria rest in the fridge for at least an hour (overnight is even better!) so the fruit infuses into the wine and liqueur.

Choose the Right Wine – Stick with a crisp, dry white like Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio. Skip oaky Chardonnay — it will overpower the delicate elderflower flavor.

Slice Fruit Thinly – Thin slices infuse faster and look prettier in the pitcher. I like mixing round slices of citrus with halved strawberries for color and texture.

Balance with Bubbles – Just before serving, add sparkling water (or prosecco if you want more sparkle). This keeps the sangria refreshing and light.

Make It Gorgeous with Floral Ice Cubes – Freeze edible flowers like pansies, violets, or lavender into large ice cubes. Not only do they look stunning, but they keep the sangria cold without watering it down too quickly.

Elderflower Sangria FAQ

Can I make elderflower sangria ahead of time?

Yes! Sangria actually tastes better after sitting for a few hours because the fruit infuses into the wine. Just add the sparkling water and flowers right before serving.

What’s the best wine for elderflower sangria?

I recommend Sauvignon Blanc for its crispness, but Pinot Grigio also works beautifully. Avoid oaky wines like Chardonnay — they compete with the floral flavors.

How long does elderflower sangria last?

Keep it refrigerated for up to 3 days. The fruit may soften after day two, but the flavors are still delicious.

Can I make this sangria sparkling?

Yes! Add a splash of Prosecco or champagne in place of some sparkling water for a bubbly version, similar to my green Irish whiskey sangria!

What makes elderflower sangria different from traditional white sangria?

Elderflower liqueur adds a sweet, floral, almost perfumed flavor that transforms the drink into something elegant and unique — it’s why I loved it enough to include it in my book.
