Coconut Mojito Recipe

I can’t think of a better way to use sweet coconut cream than to make delicious coconut cocktails like my coconut margarita!

When I’m hosting a party, I like to set up a mojito bar where guests can make their own mojito and experiment with different ingredients and flavors. It’s a beautiful, entertaining idea! This cocktail is always a hit!

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

Coconut mojitos are a fun and delicious drink option for any summer gathering.

This version is extra creamy and full of coconut flavor, thanks to coconut cream and coconut milk. Here’s why it’s a must-try:

  • Tropical flavor: Creamy and refreshing with a hint of mint and lime.
  • Simple to make: No cocktail shaker is needed; just mix in a highball glass.
  • Customizable: Works well with any white rum, or try coconut rum for even more coconut flavor.

Coconut Mojito Ingredients

Fresh Mint Leaves: Essential for any mojito, adding fresh herbal notes.

White Rum: Use any white rum or coconut rum you have.

Lime Juice: Always use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.

Cream of Coconut: Adds creaminess and a rich coconut flavor. Recommended brand: Real Coco Cream of Coconut.

Coconut Milk: Adds a light, milky touch. Use canned coconut milk for best results.

Club Soda or Sparkling Water: Adds a refreshing fizz. For a coconut twist, use a bit of coconut water.

Shredded Coconut: Garnish with sweetened or toasted shredded coconut for a festive look.

How to Make a Coconut Mojito

  1. Muddle the Mint – Place fresh mint leaves and a bit of sugar (optional) at the bottom of a highball glass. Muddle gently to release the mint’s aroma.
  2. Add Ingredients – Pour in the coconut cream, coconut milk, lime juice, and white rum. Stir to combine.
  3. Top with Club Soda – Finish by adding a splash of club soda or sparkling water.
  4. Garnish – Add shredded coconut, lime zest, or a sugar cane stick for extra style.

Eden’s Recipe Tips

  • Boost the coconut flavor with coconut rum instead of white rum.
  • Customize sweetness by adjusting the amount of simple syrup or sugar.
  • Add club soda last for a balanced flavor and bubbly finish.
  • Are you serving for a crowd? Multiply the recipe as needed, and mix in a large pitcher with extra club soda for dilution.

Cocktail Garnishes

For a festive drink, add a raw sugar cane stick to the drink before serving.

If using a straw, I recommend these biodegradable straws made from sugar cane.

Lime zest is also a festive garnish.

Frequently Asked Questions

What’s in a Mojito?

A classic Mojito has fresh lime juice, white rum, mint leaves, sugar, and club soda. Some variations add tropical juices, like pineapple, for unique flavors.

Does a Mojito Contain Rum or Tequila?

Mojitos are traditionally made with white rum, a sweet spirit from sugar cane that pairs perfectly with mint and lime. Tequila, made from agave, has a bolder, tangier flavor that is better suited for citrus-based drinks like margaritas.

Can you use Malibu to make mojitos?

Malibu coconut rum can be used for a tropical twist on a mojito! Initially crafted for piña coladas, Malibu adds a sweet coconut flavor that complements the mint and lime.

What’s a virgin mojito?

A virgin mojito is an alcohol-free version of the classic. It uses club soda, simple syrup, lime juice, and mint leaves. For extra flavor variations, add fruit juices.

Can You Make a Mojito Without a Muddler?

Yes! If you don’t have a muddler, gently crush the mint leaves with a spoon or fork. Press lightly to release the mint’s essential oils without tearing the leaves, which can cause bitterness.

Ingredients

  • 6 leaves mint
  • 1/2 ounce cream of coconut
  • 2 ounces white rum
  • 1/2 ounce lime juice
  • 3 ounces coconut milk
  • 1 ounce club soda , more if you prefer

Instructions

  • Muddle the Mint: Place the mint and the cream of coconut in a highball glass. Using a cocktail muddler, gently press down on the mint to release the aromas and flavor.
  • Stir: Add the rum, lime juice, coconut milk, and ice to the glass and stir.
  • Top it: Pour club soda over the top.
  • Garnish: Then garnish it with a lime wheel or lime wedge, fresh mint sprig, and shredded coconut.

Notes

For an extra coconut flavor, use coconut rum. This will boost the flavor even more. We use it in our classic pina colada, and it’s perfection.
If you want to use something other than simple syrup, muddle 1 tbsp sugar with the mint leaves.
