Ingredient Notes
This drink uses simple ingredients you can find at your local grocery store or liquor store.
Tequila – Use Blanco tequila or reposado tequila for this recipe.
Lime Juice – Fresh squeezed lime juice only. The fresh lime juice will give the drink the best flavor.
Grapefruit – You can use freshly squeezed grapefruit or you can use store-bought, no-sugar-added grapefruit juice.
Sparkling Rosé – You can find all of the sparkling wines. You don’t need an expensive bottle to make this drink.
Simple Syrup – This is added to give the drink a little sweetness. It’s made by using equal parts sugar and water and simmering it on a stove. You can follow our guide to making simple syrups to learn more. You can also use agave nectar instead of simple syrup.
Orange Liqueur – This helps to balance the flavors in the drink.
Expert Tips
Salty – Feel free to add a pinch of salt to the rim or a few slices of fresh lime for garnish. I like to use pink Himalayan salt for this drink.
Wines – If you don’t want to use sparkling rosé, you can use sparkling white wine or champagne.
Boozy – If you want a stronger drink, add an extra shot of tequila.
Skinny – Feel free to adjust the amount of simple syrup depending on how sweet you like your drinks.
Zesty – Add a little lime zest over the top of the drink for more fragrance and flavor.
Garnishes – Add a lime wedge, edible flower, dehydrated orange slice or a grapefruit wedge to garnish.
Orange Liqueurs
One of the other primary ingredients of a margarita is an orange liqueur. There are a few different ones you can choose from but they each have their own unique flavor.
- Triple Sec: Flavored with fragrant but bitter citrus fruit from Curacao
- Cointreau: Made from bitter and sweet orange peels
- Grand Marnier: Notes of vanilla, orange, oak, and brandy
How to Salt the Rim of a Glass
If you want to salt the rim of a glass for this sparkling margarita recipe, it’s quite simple. Start by pouring some coarse sea salt onto a small plate. Run the lime around the edge of the glass, ensuring that it’s evenly coated with lime juice. Dip the rim of the glass into the plate of salt, to coat it with salt.

This sparkling margarita is perfect for any special occasion, from summer BBQs to New Year’s Eve parties. It’s great for the holidays or for warm summer nights. It’s also great for brunches, birthdays, bridal showers, anniversaries, and Cinco de mayo!

Frequently Asked Questions
Tequila Blanco is a type of tequila that is unaged and has an herbal and slightly citric flavor. It’s typically used for margaritas and other cocktails.
Yes, you can use Grand Marnier in place of Cointreau in a margarita. Keep in mind that it will give the drink a unique flavor as it is made with cognac and oranges, giving it a more luxurious taste than Cointreau.
