This Gin and Tonic Punch with lavender is light and refreshing! It’s naturally flavored, and the beautiful purple hue is from butterfly pea flowers. It’s perfect for party punches in spring and summer.

I planted about 15 lavender plants in my yard, and they are all blooming and looking gorgeous! Lavender is one of my favorite scents and flavors, so I like to incorporate it into foods and cocktails as much as I can.

I thought adding a hint of lavender to one of my favorite cocktails would be nice.

Not only does this cocktail have a lavender flavor and scent, but it’s also the most beautiful purple color! It’s definitely a crowd-pleaser!

Ingredient Notes

Gin – Use a good quality gin.

Dried Organic Lavender – Make sure it’s culinary grade.

Tonic Water – Any tonic water is fine.

Lime Juice – Use fresh lime juice.

Dried Butterfly Pea Tea – Butterfly pea tea comes from blue butterfly pea flowers.

It changes colors based on the pH of whatever it’s mixed with. It will turn purple when mixed with an acid like citrus. When it’s by itself, steeped in hot water, it’s blue. I also made natural blue ice cubes using it.

How to Infuse Gin with Lavender

Infusing spirits is a great way to get the natural flavor that you want in alcohol. Herbs, fruit, berries, and even candy all work great for ensuring spirits! For this, I used 2 tablespoons lavender to 1 1/12 cups of gin and 2 tbsp butterfly pea flower.

The longer the lavender sits in the gin, the stronger the taste and smell. For this, you can do anywhere from 5-24 hours.

After 5 hours you will be able to smell and taste the lavender.

Once it’s finished, pour it through a mesh strainer, letting the gin fall into a glass and catching the dried lavender to through away.

Butterfly Pea Flower

Since lavender isn’t strong enough to produce the purple shade I wanted for our cocktail, we infused the lime juice with Butterly Pea Tea! Butterfly pea tea comes from blue butterfly pea flowers.

Does the butterfly tea give it a different taste? Does it taste different while having it vs. not?

    1. Eden says:

If you use just a little, it will not give it a taste. You can also use purple gin to get the color too!

  2. Linda says:

Your cocktail creation is just beautiful! Thank you for sharing it with us. I am planning on trying this for Easter. I’m not a huge gin fan, but I’m guessing it would work as a vodka tonic punch? All the instructions stay the same except for swapping out the vodka for the gin? And thanks again for your post.

    1. Eden says:

Thank you! And yes that would work!

  3. Maddie says:

Where did you get the punch bowl?

    1. Eden says:

      It’s a large vase I use as a punch bowl 🙂

  4. Colleen says:

This is absolutely beautiful! Planning a bridal party and I want to make this. I live in Southern CA what is the best type of lavender to plant for use in this punch?

    Thank you,
    Colleen

    1. Eden says:

Hi! You can really use any type of lavender. I love Spanish and English!!

  5. Jenna says:

The lavender tinted the gin, kind of yellow/brown now. Will this affect the beautiful purple color when added now?

    1. Eden says:

It will not if you’re using butterfly pea flowers.

  6. Vanessa says:

Thanks for sharing! How far ahead of time can I make them?
