We use a basic formula for our jello shot recipe. It’s easy to make and even better to eat! These red, white, and blue jello shots are served in a slanted shot glass from Crate and Barrel.

Eat them with a spoon rather than “tossing” one back. It adds a little class and charm to the jello shot.

What Are Jello Shots?

These jiggly, tasty treats – sometimes called ‘jelly shots’ – are simply jelly spiked with alcohol. They are super fun and so easy to make. They can be created a few days in advance if needed. This recipe uses coconut rum for an alcoholic kick.

Ingredients for 4th of Jello Shots

  • Vodka – A classic spirit for jello shots. The vodka is clean and doesn’t interrupt the flavors in the recipe.
  • Gelatin – This is what thickens the shot and creates the jello texture in the shot.
  • Sweetened Condensed Milk – We use this for the white jello shot layer.
  • Blue Jello – Creates the blue layer. This can come in different flavors, so pick the one you like!
  • Cherry Jello or Strawberry Jello – The red layer of the Jello shot. Choose the flavor you like.
  • Boiling Water

How to Make

Blue Layer

Add berry blue flavored Jello and pour in boiling water.

Stir until the gelatin completely dissolves.

Pour the blue Jello into the shot glass and place them in the refrigerator. It’s easier if you set the shot glasses cake pan and then place the cake pan in the refrigerator.

Refrigerate for about 20 minutes or until the gelatin is firm enough to add the next layer.

Make the white layer using the directions below and pour that over the already set blue jello.

White Layer

Pour the vodka into a bowl or container. Sprinkle unflavored gelatin over the vodka. Let it stand for about 2 minutes.

Add boiling water and stir until the gelatin completely dissolves. Pour the sweetened condensed milk and stir well.

Pour the white Jello on top of the blue jello. Refrigerate for about 20 minutes or until the gelatin is firm enough to add the red layer.

Red Layer

Repeat the process with the red jello and then let it set in the refrigerator.
